- How reliable is this protection?
- The file is encrypted with the AES-256 standard, the same one banks use. Without the password the document will not open in any program, including Adobe Acrobat and browsers.
- How do I protect a PDF from copying and editing but still let it be opened?
- Enter a password and check “Prevent text copying” and “Prevent editing”. Anyone can open the document, but only those who know the password can edit it or copy the text.
- What if I forget the password?
- It cannot be recovered: we have no copy of the file, and the encryption cannot be broken without the password. Save the password in a password manager.
- Is it free and without registration?
- Yes. No accounts, no limits on the number of files and no watermarks on the result. There is one limit: browser memory; on a regular laptop that means files up to 200-300 MB.
- Where does my file go?
- Nowhere. The page loads a processing module into the browser, and from then on it runs on your device. The file is not sent to a server; nobody sees it or stores it. You can turn off the internet after opening the page and the tool will keep working.
